On the Courts\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Sign-up doubles average attendance is about 15 players per day.\u00a0 Sign-up doubles is on Mon, Wed, and Fri from 10:00 to 11:30 AM.\u00a0 Email Jerry at jsdvorak77@gmail.com to join the group.<\/p>\n

Tuesday drop-in doubles (6-8 PM) attendance is about 2 courts per session. Tuesday nights are very busy with non-members being asked to vacate the courts, on occasion.<\/p>\n

On August 6 at the National Bank Open OTA \u201cPresidents Day\u201d in Toronto, the Club representative won a door prize of 24 cans of ProPenn tennis balls.\u00a0 As a result, the balls are being distributed to the various organized groups in the Club to enjoy for the rest of the season.<\/p>\n

Round Robin and Lunch<\/strong><\/p>\n

On July 21, Kincardine Tennis Club held a successful round robin and lunch.\u00a0 Twenty-four members played in beautiful weather followed by a lunch social afterwards.<\/p>\n

Cans of ProPenn tennis balls and Tim Horton\u2019s gift certificates were given to random members as door prizes.<\/p>\n

Thanks to Lynne Whitaker and Sam Black for organizing the event.\u00a0 Another round robin social is planned for September.<\/p>\n

Court Reservations\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Court reservations are filling up for morning weekday slots.<\/p>\n

In order to reserve a court all players must be members.\u00a0 Short term members are included.<\/p>\n

Court reservations can be made by emailing info@kincardinetennisclub.com by 6:00 PM Sunday.\u00a0 The maximum court reservation block is 2 hours.\u00a0 The court schedule is posted weekly on the Club’s website at Info\\Events, Lessons and Court Schedule.\u00a0 The link is at https:\/\/kincardinetennisclub.com\/?page_id=215.<\/p>\n

Court reservations are not required, but members with reservations have priority over members that drop in.<\/p>\n

Pickleball <\/strong><\/p>\n

Pickleball on the tennis courts has been nearly non-existent in 2024.\u00a0 Lately, some pickleball players have been using the courts, but the numbers are still low compared to 2023.<\/p>\n

Lights<\/strong><\/p>\n

A third light is out, the new one is on Court 1.\u00a0 The Club has avoided replacing the lights since 2021, due to the high cost, and low court usage by Club members in the evenings.\u00a0 However, the failed lights are now spread across all 3 courts, making it difficult to play at night.<\/p>\n

The Club has asked for a repair estimate, and will approach the Municipality to discuss a cost sharing arrangement.\u00a0 Light replacement won\u2019t likely occur until next spring.<\/p>\n

Court Mops<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Southampton Tennis Club uses a unique homemade mop to quickly dry the courts after rain.\u00a0 Essentially, the mop is shag carpet on a stick.\u00a0 The shag rug is donated by members and the mop is put together by members.\u00a0 The mop is dragged over wet spots and is very effective.<\/p>\n

The Club is wondering if any members have excess shag carpet to donate in order to construct some mops.\u00a0 The carpet does not have to be new.\u00a0 Ideally, 2 mops per court would be used.<\/p>\n

Final Note<\/strong><\/p>\n

Final 2024 membership is 90, which is down from 100 last year.\u00a0\u00a0 This is the first year membership has dropped since the Club re-started in 2019.<\/p>\n

There have been a few short-term memberships (< 10) as well.<\/p>\n

Enjoy the US Open starting Aug 26.\u00a0 Hopefully some Canadians will have a deep run.<\/p>\n
